Luke’s Top 10 Stargate SG-1 Episodes

October 21st, 2009 | Published under Top 10 Lists | 2 Comments

Stargate SG-1 is easily one of my favorite series that television has produced. It has an entertaining mix of action, humour, drama and emotion. The Stargate is a device that allows humans to transverse the universe to other planets almost instantaneously, and the mythology that is tied it with this concept makes it interesting, exciting, and even, maybe just a little, factual.

Although the Stargate conspiracy is one that a minority does believe, I doubt that, even if it was true, the entertainment value would be anywhere near as good as that that Jack O’Neill, Daniel Jackson, Samantha Carter and Teal’c, and later Jonas Quinn, Cam Mitchell and Vala make on this show.

Over the last six months I’ve made my way through the ten seasons of Stargate SG-1, including the three movies. While making my way through the series, I have made many notes, including a shortlist, which has helped to produce the finished product of my Top 10 Stargate SG-1 episodes. Enjoy.

10 – Lifeboat
Season 7 – Episode 6

SG-1 visit a planet designated P2A-347. There, they discover a crashed alien spaceship called Stromos which contains a vast amount of cryogenic pods. The team separates to investigate the situation, and Daniel’s mind becomes host to many of the crew’s minds. When they further research the ship to help cure Daniel, they find the crew’s consciousnesses are saved to the ship’s computer during transport, and they have tried to save themselves by populating Daniel’s mind when the ship crashed.

09 – The Gamekeeper
Season 2 – Episode 4

SG-1 discover a world where the entire population is in virtual reality, believing that their world outside is uninhabitable. SG-1 become trapped in the virtual reality themselves, and has to convince the residents of the truth outside for themselves and everyone else to go free.

08 – Unending
Season 10 – Episode 20

Unending is the finale of the SG-1 series of Stargate. The Asgard summon the SGC that their race is dying, with their genetic regeneration failing. The Asgard board the ship to give Earth all their technology and knowledge. Once the technology is installed, two Ori ships arrive and the Asgard commits mass suicide by blowing up their planet to protect their legacy. Carter prevents the destruction of their ship from the Ori attacks by putting up a time dilation field, which causes the SG1 team to be stuck in time for 50 years.

07 – 1969
Season 2 – Episode 21

SG-1 step through the Stargate to visit P2X-555, but a solar flare sends them back in time. They meet a young General Hammond, who helps them from a note he received from the future. The note details when the next solar flare will occur, helping them to return to the present time.

06 – Tangent
Season 4 – Episode 12

Teal’c and O’Neill take the X-301, a new experimental aircraft combining Earth and Goa’uld technologies for a test flight. Someone takes control of the craft, leading them into outer space with no possibility to turn back and return. Facing near death, Sam and Daniel request the help of Jacob (Selmak) to rescue them.

05 – Tin Man
Season 1 – Episode 19

SG-1 gates to the planet P3X-989 (On Altair) where, 11,000 years ago the inhabitants experienced deadly radiation forcing them underground and eventually having to transfer their consciousnesses into mechanical duplicates. When SG-1 arrives in present time, there is only one person left called Harlan. SG-1 soon discovers that they themselves have also been converted into mechanical duplicates by Harlan.

04 – Window of Opportunity
Season 4 – Episode 6

SG-1 encounters an ancient time device on P4X-639. The device causes O’Neill and Teal’c to become trapped in a time loop that only they know about. It presents some of the funniest moments of the series.

03 – Absolute Power
Season 4 – Episode 17

The Harcesis visits the SGC, where he puts Daniel Jackson in a coma-like state. Daniel Jackson experiences what it would mean to have all the knowledge of the Goa’uld, showing him how dangerous knowledge and power can be.

02 – Cold Lazarus
Season 1 – Episode 7

SG-1 visits a planet which is full of blue crystals, which happen to be a living life form. One of the crystals produces a duplicate of O’Neill who, unknown to the others, returns to the SGC. They discover the duplicate and track him down, finding he was only attempting to heal O’Neill’s plain over the loss of his son.

01 – Singularity
Season 1 – Episode 15

SG-1 discovers a young girl on the planet P8X-987 (Hanka). When they bring her back to the SGC, they discover she has an irremovable Naqahdah bomb inside her installed by Nirrti to destroy the SGC. SG-1 faces the dilemma of having to take the girl to an underground bomb shelter, where the explosive device can safely detonate, along with the death of the innocent girl.

fantastic list for a great series, no doubt the best series I have ever watched. Singularity is one of the most moving things I have ever watched.

After reading this list I am almost ready to begin a massive 8 day SG1 Marathon! The list is pretty sound except for one or two omissions…

Children of the Gods (EP1 & 2 S1) You get to see boobies… (Jokes!)

Serious favorites now..

S1 E20: There But for the Grace of God (Daniel Jackson in alternate universe)
S5 E21: Meridian (Daniel Jackson dies/ascends)
S7 E22: Lost City PT2 (Anubis attacks earth!)

There my additions… could be a couple more though!
