Blink 182 Spin-Offs

March 9th, 2010 | Published under Music | No Comments

Blink 182 came onto the scene in 1992 and really started to make it big in 1997 with their first popular studio album, Dude Ranch. Since that time, Blink 182 have produced three other studio albums and one live album, and are now working on a new album since they reformed last year. But aside from Blink 182, the members have all had several different “spin-off” bands. Here is a overview of them:

+44 (Plus 44)

+44 formed in 2005 after Blink 182’s break-up and included Blink members Mark Hoppus (vocals, bass) and Travis Barker (drums, percussion, keyboards, electronics). The non-Blink members were Shane Gallagher on guitar, Craig Fairbaugh on rhythm guitar and background vocals, and short-term member Carol Heller on vocals and guitar.

The band produced one studio album in 2006 and took a hiatus in 2009. Mark Hoppus has commented that his attention has reverted back to Blink 182 for now, but he would like to work with them again.

10 Hours At The Machine

10 Hours at the Machine started in 2010 as a project of Mark Hoppus. Although the only currently confirmed member is Mark himself, he has said this is not a solo project and is something he is “doing with friends”.

No songs have yet to be released except a small video clip of Mark recording guitar. There is no confirmed release dates or details yet.

Angels & Airwaves

Angels & Airwaves formed in 2005 after the break-up of Blink 182 and includes Blink member Tom DeLonge. The other members of the band are David Kennedy (guitar, keyboard), Matt Wachter (bass, keyboard, and background vocals), Atom Willard (drums, percussion), and occasional member Roger Manning Jr. (keyboard).

The band has produced three albums: We Don’t Need to Whisper in 2006, I-Empire in 2007 and LOVE (available for free download from their website) in 2010. More notably, they are working on full-length motion picture Love believed to be released in April 2010. They are still active and touring.

Box Car Racer

Box Car Racer was formed in 2001 as a side-project to Blink 182. It consisted of Blink members Tom DeLonge and Travis Barker. It also consisted of non-Blink members David Kennedy (guitar, vocals) and occasionally Anthony Celestino (bass).

They produced only one self-titled album in 2002. The band was only active until 2003, at which time they took a hiatus. Tom has said that the band served its purpose, and is now permanently inactive.

Expensive Taste

Expensive Taste is a hip-hop group formed in 2005 with Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker. It also consists of Paul Wall and Skinhead Rob. They have produced a 15-track mix tape called Expen$ive Taste. They are currently active.

Travis Barker Solo Album

In 2010, Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker announced that he is working on his first solo album, still unnamed. Travis has said the album will be multi-genre and is expected to feature multiple guests, including Corey Taylor (Slipknot), Lil Wayne, RZA, Game, Rick Ross and Beanie Sigel.

TRV$DJAM

TRV$DJAM was formed in 2008 and consisted of Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker, and DJ AM (Adam Goldstein). The duo produced two albums, Fix Your Face in and Fix Your Face Vol. 2, both in 2009. They can be downloaded for free from their website. The duo is now defunct after DJ AM died of a drug overdose in August, 2009.

Travis Barker has also been a member in several other bands, including ska band The Aquabats which he was a member from 1997 to 1998 and The Transplants (on and off since 2002). He has also been a part of several side projects with other artists, including Black Eyed Peas, Pink, Pharrell, Bun B, Avril Lavigne, Rihanna, Eminem and Game. He has also announced he is performing on the upcoming albums of Slash, Snoop Dogg and A-Trak.
